"On that red brick road..."

Well, I am trying to upload the collection of camping photos before we leave for Hawaii tomorrow! I will post again tomorrow, just to finish up SDJ's trip. She's already home so these pics are a little late - but I'm sure she'll love to see them!
We went camping at "Tunnel Mountain Campground" about 4Ks outside of Banff - a good hike but not too long a drive.
It is a good campground - a nice place to experiment with Buck's first weekend of tent camping. RKZ was in "camp general" mode. He make SDJ collect sticks for fire kindling and Buck was put to "work" with his diggers to dig up some of the campground. This was his favorite game if I discount the fact that he played "chase the gopher (ground squirrel)" as we were given a site on top of a gopher colony (no lie). They were fat and everywhere - not at all afraid of us as they ran over our feet trying to get our food!

Buck "helped" dad set up the 3 person tent. Another cool thing about many Canadian campsites is that they supply the cut firewood - you just have to pick it up and you have as much wood as you need! Very cool. Camping was great. Our only struggles were the fact that Buck refused to sleep (he cried until aobut 11:30pm the first night) and that the people around us were polite, but interested in partying. There was nothing like getting up with Buck at 6:30am as he loudly told a sleeping camp about his every thought. Buck literally did not stop talking for the 3 days. SDJ was great with him - and it was even her idea to drive Buck around until he fell asleep the 2nd night!
We had a great time eating too many s'mores and fighting for sleeping bag space. Sleeping was a funny experience as Buck, RKZ and I were snuggled into a queen sized bag while SDJ had her own bag right next to me. I think I spent most of the night with my head on her pillow as Buck preferred laying sideways with his feet on my chest. Amazing that we slept as well as we did.
We found some better camp sites for our next trips. Yes, there will be more as we explore the wilderness of Banff and Jasper. We did decide that we'll take Buck's travel cot as well as a bigger tent next time!! But we'll miss SDJ!
