"down by the old, mill stream..."

OK, I'm having issues with pictures this morning as I think everyone and their mother must be blogging this morning. Sorry for text-only posting. But, true to my word, it's been about 2 days and i need to keep the Kelly contingent well aware of "what's really going on" here in C-A-N-ada.

Thursday at the stampede was great. RKZ was very good about trying to go on every ride that SDJ (Sammy Davis Junior, godfather) wanted to ride. By the time they reached the 7th ride, which was the one where you just hang upside down three or 4 times after spinning around a giant loop in a rollercoaster car, RK testifies that he "literally almost starting puking at the top of the ride. I was praying, 'please, God, don't let me die.' " He wasn't afraid physically, he was afraid that he was going to throw up all over the people nearest to him. That was the end of the rides for RK, I'm afraid. After that, SDJ rode the last 2 on her own as Buck and I attended the IAMS Superdog show in air conditioned heaven. (not the show, the temperature).

SDJ's only sadness was that there is a ride that is simply a giant lever in the sky. I wish I could draw it for you (or download a pic). Two people sit on one end about 13 stories in the air and two people sit on the other end and then it spins in circles as the seats spin. RK was already out at that point - and it costs $40.00/person - so we decided we'd leave that fun little tourture device for Superman M when he brings his daughter up in the future :)

On to Friday, it was good for SDJ to sleep in (although she told me that she'd heard the baby all morning. I told her to get used to it.) and we basically had a mellow hang-around day. SDJ was able to answer the 27 emails she receives daily, I guess. Buck and I slept during his nap until 3:30 and then I had to meet the Plains Marketing (RK's business) wives for the Gretchen Wilson/Big & Rich concert.

The concert was fun, but the real action was here at the house! The neighborhood kids have finally realized that SDJ is here for a while and she was invited to ride bikes (with an accompanying dad) to the river to "search out fishing spots." The boy across the street is some type of BMX racer (he's 8) and he has a load of bikes for SDJ to choose from. She rode for the afternoon and then came home and met the neighbors who were (true to form) hanging out in someone's driveway having a 'pool party' where all of their dogs lay around in a baby pool while the owners drink beer & wine. RK said that he looked out the window at one point and SDJ was sitting on a lawnchair making everyone laugh. He decided it was bad form to have your young neice hanging outside alone and so RK joined the party while more neighborhood kids showed up to meet SDJ.

It doesn't get dark here until 11pm (we're that far north), but RK decided that he and SDJ had to head in at 10:30, after we were all invited to go swimming at the river this week with the neighbors. Already this morning, RKZ and SDJ rode bikes to catch up with everyone at the fishing spot she'd helped find the yesterday. I guess the only other 13 year old in the group, a boy named Alex, let SDJ use his fishing pole for awhile. SDJ was very impressed with his fishing skills. When I drilled RKZ about the "interaction," he said..."uh...I think Alex is really more interested in fishing than girls or anything. He really didn't seem to notice anything different about SDJ other than the fact that she didn't have a fishing pole." You gotta' love the kids in Canada.

I will keep everyone posted, but I think that the summer has just perked up for SDJ - she seems much more interested in riding bikes and sitting in a lawn chair than heading down for more rides.

I, of course, was sitting in the house watching Buck while the fishing happened. This appeals more to me than fishing anyway :) More tomorrow!
