"she's goin' the distance..."

Today was the "Stampede Road Race" first was the 10K run and then the kids' 400 meters. A girlfriend, Barbie, and I, have been running for the last two months to train. We weren't taking it totally seriously, but we were excited to see how we could do. Barbie, true to her wonder woman roots, was able to run it in 55 minutes. She's a dynamo and I wish RKZ had gotten a picture of her for the blog also. I bettered my last year's time by 8 minutes and finished with 59.14. I felt like I was going to throw up and my legs wanted to give out, but Barbie and I both did some major "self-talk" on the route. Mine mostly consisted of, "You are NOT going to walk. You are going to keep up this pace and beat the 300 lb man in spandex who you've been following." It was humbling, but I'm glad I did it. Maybe a 1/2 marathon for my 40th? Uhh...I'll have to run a lot more than I am now for that.

The kids' race was awesome. There were about 40 kids running and each of them was the number 1. We simply LOVE Buck, who was one of the last kids and basically decided that he was superman running around the course. He ran next to RKZ and we were proud that he never walked or cried to get off the track, he just goes through life to his own drummer, that's for sure...in the end, both he and Jackpot (his red headed friend, Barbie's son) were given cookie medals and a gift bag. They loved it.

Jackpot and Buck show off their medals.
